M.K. Govindadas

M.K. Govindadas was a devotee of Sree Narayana Guru who donated a building to the Sivagiri Mutt, which was later named Gandhi Ashram, where Mahatma Gandhi and Sree Narayana Guru met in 1925. He also built a memorial called Vanajakshi Mandiram, which was later used to house the Guru's body for public homage. 

 

  • Donation to Sivagiri Mutt:

    M.K. Govindadas donated a building within the Sivagiri Mutt premises to Sree Narayana Guru. 

  • Gandhi Ashram:

    This building was renamed Gandhi Ashram to commemorate the meeting between Mahatma Gandhi and Sree Narayana Guru on March 12, 1925. 

  • Vanajakshi Mandiram:

    Govindadas built Vanajakshi Mandiram, a memorial for his daughter, on the north side of Sarada Mutt in Sivagiri. 

  • Historic Significance:

    The building, originally donated by Govindadas, became the venue for the historic meeting between the two revered figures

  • Vanajakshi Mandiram's Role:

    It was also where the Guru's body was kept for public homage after his demise
