Bhairavan Santhi Swamikal

Divyashree Bhairavan Shanti Swami was the first priest chosen by Sree Narayana Guru for the Aruvippuram Shiva Temple. He was born in 1818 in Vakkom. Originally a weaver by profession, he later renounced material pleasures in search of spiritual bliss. His life took a significant turn when Sree Narayana Guru visited Vakkom—Bhairavan Swami joined the Guru on his journey to Aruvippuram and remained there ever since. Deeply devoted to the Guru, Bhairavan Swami became a constant companion and caretaker at Aruvippuram. He took it upon himself to ensure that all visitors and residents were provided with nourishing and delicious meals, upholding the sacredness of hospitality. Following the famous consecration of the Shiva Linga at Aruvippuram by Sree Narayana Guru—a revolutionary act that challenged caste-based discrimination—Bhairavan Swami was entrusted with the management of both the temple and the adjacent Mutt. From that moment until his samadhi in 1938, he faithfully served under the guidance and in the spirit of the Guru, becoming a pillar of the Aruvippuram spiritual movement.
